Our country is on the edge of great development. To further strengthen the power of our nation, we need more capable workers, scientists, and so on. As a result, we should provide all citizens with free and accessible education.

Firstly, not every family can afford education for their children. If we provide free education for everyone, we can make all our country’s kids well-educated. People develop most of their interests in school. In school, we learn about math, science, literature, history, arts, and music. If a kid doesn’t even get the chance to know these things, how could she or he become interested in the first place? Right now, our country needs more people to pursue science, business, politics, and various other fields. For instance, as the population grows, we should find reusable resources to replace oil, coal, and wood, which are disappearing faster than ever. To do so, we need more people to join the research team for new energy and saving resources. With the invention of artificial intelligence and robots, the labor workers are no longer needed. In the future, illiterate people will have no work because their work can be done by the robots much better and faster. However, with more robots we need more technicians to maintain the machines, meaning we need our workers to have some degree of education and training.

Secondly, universal education can ensure equality in the society. If kids from poor families are never given a chance to receive education, they will be stuck in the poverty forever. What’s worse, they might end up on the street and start to commit crimes. By providing these kids with free education, they can learn from an early age what is right and what is wrong. For example, they will be taught the harm of drugs and alcohol, which prevent them from dealing drugs or becoming alcoholics. At the same time, they will be trained to read, write, and think. Most importantly, they will practice planning skills, organizing skills, research skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, and various other skills that might be useful to adults. In the future, they can find a good job instead of being poor for a life time. In the long term, the problem of poverty can be solved, and the society will become more peaceful.

Although providing free education for all sounds a little bit expensive for the government, it is a good investment considering the long-term development of the country. Besides, a free, basic education won’t cost so much as what the government has already been spending on helping the poorest population.

Be imaginative, be educated

----Why do we need to reform the Chinese education? Good afternoon，distinguished judges，dear teachers. It’s my great honor to stand here and deliver a speech. My topic is: be imaginative, be educated.

Before my speech I’d like to ask you a question： What impressed you most in the vedio? For me I was amazed by Huizi’s smartness who made use of the gourd, which is too big to be useful. No wonder he is a sage because he used imagination with knowledge to solve a problem.

I remember when I was a child, I was a very shy girl. I never showed my paintings to the teachers after I saw the best one in class. One day a teacher said one sentence which completely changed my life. I can even remember every words of it. She said :”Don’t be afraid to be different. You don’t have to be in it. ”

It’s true and that’s the very point I am stressing now,: we need to reform the Chinese education. Einstein once said :”Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, but imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. ”

However, traditional Chinese education kills our aptitude to think boldly. How? Drilling children on how to take tests, punishing divergent thinking, and prioritizing skills over knowledge and the endless hours devoted to test preparation certainly deaden students’ interest in school. In Barack Obama’s recent State of the Union address, he highly asserted that Americans must encourage innovation, imagination, and creativity so that we can “win the future, American Dream”. However traditional Chinese education never emphasizes on Individuality because Chinese are well-disciplined. So that’s why we need to reform! A good education is to develop students’ brain rather than to produce “Tests machines”. We need to create our own thinking after we learn; We need teachers to guide us; We need someone to tell us textbook can be wrong. We need to be always rational sensitive, open-minded and even dare to challenge the authority!

At last, I just want to say “Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school.” For me life is like riding a bicycle, to keep my balance I must keep moving. What keeps me moving? Thankyou imagination, thankyou education, thankyou all the teachers who ever taught me to be imaginative ! You recreate me. Thankyou!

example, before 1964 there was only black-and-white television but

until now there are kinds of colour televisions that are slim and

innovative such as LCD TV... The black-and-white television made the

basis and gave inventors idea to develop the modern TV nowadays.

Consequently our knowledge, success today is the result of constant

work of our ancestors before.

Secondly, learning about the past is very essential because it makes us

doubt and take consideration into earlier assumptions. For that reason,

people will find out mistakes that were made in the past. This will show

us which roads not to ever go down again and put human in a right way

to develop. Learning about the past is not only learning about the

history but also is learning from our and the others' mistakes. By this

way of learning, people will become more and more experienced and

never make the same mistakes again.

Additionally, if learning about the past has no value, people in the world

could speak, could write by themselves without learning from anyone.

This is impossible so the value of the past, in this case are the parents,

are undeniable.

In a nutshell, the past is always a good teacher and we are still bad

students who crave for knowledge. Denying the past also means that we

are destroying the present and our future because no one can jump

without ground to stand on.

In sum, the advantages of referring to the past outweigh the

disadvantages, but it is imperative to point out that whether historical

information can actively affect our present life depends on whether we

could take rational cognizance of the past and whether we could try to

make breakthrough and whether we could learn from the past failures

and success, especially from the failures.
