Some people believe that it is beneficial for children to spend time on TV, video and PC games, while some hold the opposite view. Talk about these two views and give your own opinion.
When it comes to whether children shall spend their spare time watching TV, video and playing PC games, people’s opinions diverse greatly. Some say it is basically a waste of children’s time, while others argue that children can benefit a lot from such activities.
It is firmly maintained by many parents and teachers that children’s main purpose is to pursue outstanding academic achievements at school. To beat their competitors, they must make the best use of every precious minute. Therefore, they can not afford to indulge themselves before the “idiot box” as TV or in playing the senseless virtual games. Moreover, watching TV and playing PC games are addictive for many poorly-disciplined children, consuming their interest in study and eroding their academic aspirations.
However, many other people hold different views, arguing that if properly guided and supervised, children can expand vision and knowledge as well as foster their creativity from those fun activities. There are many educational programs on TV such as Discovery which feed children extensive knowledge in science and arts. By sparking children’s interest and imagination in various topics, these programs are often more enlightening than textbooks. Furthermore, when playing PC games, children can foster a stronger sense of cooperation as well as competition, and sharpening their mind against possible risks in the real world. Last but not least, watching cartoons and science fiction movies
definitely stimulates children’s imagination and creativity. Many youngsters have been inspired to come up with novel inventions of become engineering elites in later life exactly with the inspirations from those sources.
From the above discussion, it is evident that if children can balance their study and fun time properly, watching TV, video programs and playing PC games will unquestionably bring them more benefits than harm. After all, books are not the only source of useful knowledge; in order to grow healthily in modern times, children need to accumulate
knowledge and skills from various channels, and suitable time for relaxation and inspiration is surely more welcome than not.

Cities are often seen as places of opportunity, but there are also some major drawbacks of living in a large metropolis. In my opinion, governments could do much more to improve city life for the average inhabitant.
The main problem for anyone who hopes to migrate to a large city is that the cost of living is likely to be much higher than it is in a small town or village. Inhabitants of cities have to pay higher prices for housing, transport, and even food. Another issue is that urban areas tend to suffer from social problems such as high crime and poverty rates in comparison with rural areas. Furthermore, the air quality in cities is often poor, due to pollution from traffic, and the streets and public transport systems are usually overcrowded. As a result, city life can be unhealthy and stressful.
However, there are various steps that governments could take to tackle these problems. Firstly, they could invest money in the building of affordable or social housing to reduce the cost of living. Secondly, politicians have the power to ban vehicles from city centres and promote the use of cleaner public transport, which would help to reduce both air pollution and traffic congestion. In London, for example, the introduction of a congestion charge for drivers has helped to curb the traffic problem. A third option would be to develop provincial towns and rural areas, by moving industry and jobs to those regions, in order to reduce the pressure on major cities.
In conclusion, governments could certainly implement a range of measures to enhance the quality of life for all city residents.
Cities are often seen as places of opportunity(a better life), but there are also some major drawbacks(extremely difficult/difficulties) of living in a large metropolis(a city).
一、听写,要每个词都听写下来,就算自己已经会的单词,也要写下来;
二、检查,对照附录上的单词,检查自己听写下的单词是否都正确;
三、整理,把拼写错误、拼不出来、拼写正确但听写时拿不准的单词都挑出来,记录在一个小本子上;
四、反复听当天部分单词的mp3,不管是在去教室的路上,还是在公交车上,有时间就听;
一、单词量及语法;
二、阅读技巧;
一、通览整篇文章,包括标题、所有问题、文章长短,这样做是为了让自己心里有数;
二、审读文章后问题,当然也包括有时会在文章前的Heading题,划出关键词(Key Words);
Globalization is a declaration of war upon all other cultures. And in culture wars, there is no exemption of civilians, there are no innocent bystanders. Why should it be expected that ancient and rooted civilizations are going to accept this peripheralisation without a struggle? The answer to that is that
globalization carries an implicit promise that it will relieve poverty and offer security—perhaps the most ancient of human dreams. Because of the power of global capitalism to create wealth, it is assumed that this priority must sweep aside all other human preoccupations, including all existing institutions, interpretations and searches for meaning in the world.
It is disingenuous to assume that economy, society and culture operate in separate spheres. This suggests that, one, exposed to the globalizing
imperative, no aspect of social life, customary practice, traditional behaviour will remain the same.
There have been, broadly, two principal responses in the world, which we may call the fatalistic and the resistant. It is significant that among the most fatalistic have been the leaders of G-7, Ex-President Clinton said globalization is a fact not a policy choice Tony Blair said it is inevitable and irreversible. It may be considered paradoxical that the leaders of the most dynamic and{6-9分范文}.

There are two aspects to resistance. One is the reassertion of local identities—even if local actually means spread over very large parts of the
world. The reclaiming of the local is often focused in the field of culture—music, songs and dance. This suggests an attempt to guarantee it from the effects of economic integration; a kind of cordon sanitaria set up around a dwindling

reaction, the hatred of both economic and cultural globalization which may not merely perceive, but feel in the very core of their cognition, as an inseparable violation of identity. The resentment of many Muslims toward the U.S and Israel, the defensive posturing of Vindu fundamentalism, opposed both to Islam and Christianity, are the most vivid dramatizations of this.

Students from rural areas often find it difficult to get access to university education, so people think universities should make it especially easy for them to study at. To what extent do you agree or disagree?(2010年6月5日考题)
开头段(Introduction)
S1: Today it is not uncommon to see that rural students have difficulty in getting access to higher education.
S2: people hold different views on whether this group of students should be given certain privileges on campus.
S3: As far as I am concerned, village children and urban ones should be treated equally.
S1: On the one hand, it cannot be denied that it is more difficult for village children to adapt to to the college life, so special assistance from universities is necessary.
S2: Firstly, providing easier courses might benefit students from rural areas greatly because their academic foundation is not as solid as their urban classmates.
S3: Only in this way can they quickly adapt to the college environment.
S4: Secondly, offering other forms of assistance such as loans, scholarships, or part-time jobs can ensure that they complete the college education successfully.
S1: On the other hand, treating every student equally, whether they are from the rural or urban areas, will be beneficial in the long run.
S2: To begin with, all men are created equal and society does not give privileges to anyone.
S3: So it is better for them to get well-prepared for the fierce competition.
S4: Otherwise, rural students might bury their head in the sand before it is too late to return to the harsh reality.
S5: In the second place, giving village children privileges may damage their confidence and self-esteem, and weaken their interest in study.
S6: By contrast, it is better for the government to place more emphasis on and invest more capital in the education of rural areas.
(Conclusion)
To sum up, although there might be some merits of giving privileges to rural students on campus, treating all students equally benefit in the long run.
Children who grow up in families which are short of money are better
prepared to deal with the problems of adult life than children who are brought up by wealthy parents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some feel that the children of low income families are better equipped to deal with difficulties posed by the 'real world' when they grow up and they also believe the privileged children of wealthy families are less fit to deal with these difficulties . The implications and veracity of this argument seem self-evident, but in fact require closer examination. ( 58words )
特别是最后半句: but in fact require closer examination ,感觉是在抛砖引玉.
The popular wisdom is that children of poorer families learn early on the value of a buck, and are thus naturally better suited to stretching moneywhen times get tough in adulthood. Inversely, the children of wealthy families, thoseborn with a silver spoon in their mouths, are believed to be completely ignorant of the value of money, having had everything provided for them in their youth and oftentimes erroneously expecting the same situation in adulthood. They are believed to be prone to overspending and financial
irresponsibility. This belief, though logical, overlooks one key point which is , of course, education. (100words)
The basis of this argument is , of course, knowing the value of money, and the idea that children of the poor know this, and those of the wealthy do
not . Who though, is in a better position to teach their children the value of money; someone skilled in earning and keeping it, the wealthy parent, or
someone who can not seem to acquire it, the poor parent? Both wealthy and poor children are equally likely to acquire an education in money, whether it is formal, or in the school of hard knocks. Conversely, both children are as likely to ignore this education. (101words)
A poor child may believe that one can get along, if not as easily, without wealth. A wealthy child may be well trained by a parent steeped in the knowledge of money management; the key to developing this skill is
education.
Children who grow up in families which are short of money are better prepared to deal with the problems of adult life than children who are brought up by wealthy parents.
