Personal Statement
I am a senior student majoring in Finance and Banking in Shenzhen University and planning to pursue postgraduate education in Finance. Actually I became curious about and interested in Finance since I was in senior high school. When I started my senior high school education, a relative of mine gave me HK$2000 as a gift for Spring Festival when the exchange rate of HK$ against RMB was 1.06. Three years after, when I took the money with me to go shopping in Hong Kong, the exchange rate had dropped to 0.88, depreciating 17%. I was surprised by the fast losses of purchasing power of HK$ and understood the importance and attractiveness of finance.
Having achieved excellent scores in the National College Entrance Examinations, I was admitted into Shenzhen University in 2008, majoring in Finance and Banking. From academic perspectives, I made great efforts on absorbing professional knowledge and building up analytical skills and managed to get A scores for many professional courses such as Analysis of Investment of Securities, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, International Finance (English Version), Real Estate Investment: Analysis and Financing, and Tax Planning of Natural Person’s Financing. Moreover, research works of investigation of house vacancy rate and problems for real estate of China during adjustments provided me with more opportunities to peak the insights of industrial situations and gradually form my own opinions over various topics. Inspired by my undergraduate education and research interests,I have envisioned a clear career objective to become a professional financial planner. I hope that after years of experience in personal financial consulting I will be able to maintain consistent client pool and set up my own office to provide tailored services.
In order to make that object come true, I applied internships in HSBC Personal Finance Department and China Securities Co, Ltd. during the third year of undergraduate. Through hardworking and active communication with both clients and colleagues, I was able to find out the relationships between stock demand and stock price and absorb in-depth knowledge about stock indexes and trend analysis techniques and master the writing skills of stock critics. Furthermore, I volunteered to practice in business departments organized in banks and managed to initiate discussions with potential clients, identify their specific needs and propose appropriate technical support. The internships not only helped to improve my analytic skills but also developed my communication capability substantially. I also took another challenge to pass the China Financial Planner exams, one of the toughest professional exams in China with low pass rate. Thanks to the exam, I was able to gasp more systematic knowledge of insurance, social security, investment and tax planning.
Nevertheless, the more attention I pay to the financial planner industry in China, the more I realize that in China financial planner is still an emerging industry, lacking sound mechanism, in-depth knowledge and mature experience while the industry in USA has been well developed. In addition, During my internship in HSBC, I was deeply touched by
the facts that I had many difficulties of communicating with foreign clients restricted my professional English level and experience of communication with people of different culture backgrounds while many colleagues who graduated abroad handled similar situations much more easily. Opinions from those colleagues were that interactive learning in Western countries can be a great promoter in developing the skills needed for a good financial planner. Therefore, I believe that a postgraduate education in USA, combined with the professional certificate I have, shall provide substantial support for my future career as a financial planner.
As a state located on the Atlantic Coast, Delaware has economic and industrial traditions such as Du Pont as well as beautiful natural environment, a wonderful surrounding for my study and potential development in finance. In addition, University of Delaware provides a variety of elective courses to choose from and International students of the university, representing 105 countries, comprise nearly 25% of graduate population. I believe the diversity of population shall substantially improve my communication skills with various people with different backgrounds.
In my spare time, I love to travel around and widen my eyes. It is also my interests to take part in a variety of social activities such as collecting feedbacks from students for university, editing student newspaper about students’ rights, working as a volunteer in nursing houses from time to time and providing services of translation and reception at Shenzhen Universiade. I believe that my passion of serving other people shall further support my future career as a financial planner.

Mechanical engineering is the foundation of industry. It plays a key role in the national economy. It’s broad field including general engineering, aeronautical, chemical and nuclear engineering, etc. Provides a sufficient room of choices for me to realize the dream of becoming a scientist or a mechanical engineer. It was with this fact in mind that I decided to choose mechanical engineering as the major field of study for both undergraduate and graduate career at Tsinghua University.
During nearly eight years of study at Tsinghua University, I completed a total of 47 courses in undergraduate study, 14 courses in graduate study. The major courses that interested me most included: Theoretical Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Elasticity and Plasticity Mechanical Analysis of Plastic Deformation Processes, Theory of Metal Forming, Computer Language and Programming, Mechanical Design, etc„ After graduation, I entered the First Heaby Machinery Works (in northeast of China). During this period, I became familiar with the design and manufacturing of some heavy machines, thus furthering my interest in mechanical engineering. At the same time, I found that many good ideas of design could not be put into existence because of the backwardness in raw material quality and processing techniques. This fact impelled the related areas and me to concentrate my research interest on materials science and processing. Through careful survey, I selected a subject about the quality control of heavy disc forging and took it as my research subject for master degree. After over tow years of investigation, I finally made a great innovation in the forging process, making the end product rate increase from 50% to 90%. In the course of investigation and my later working after graduate study, I also found some problems that are common in mechanical industry. For example, how do cracks in products during hot metal working generate and{ps出国范文}.
develop? How to avoid cracks? How do non-metallic inclusions affect the properties of materials? How to control the content, shape and
distribution of inclusions in final products? Solution to these problems will improve the quality of many kinds of products. But they are often difficult to be solved because they include knowledge of many disciplines and require many new research methods. I feel that what I have learned is far from sufficient to tackle all the problems. Thus I have decided to continue my education by pursuing a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering in a highly industrialized country like the United States. I plan to complete my degree objective I 3 to 5 year and hope that I will be able to further my knowledge I areas including Solid Mechanics, Materials Science and Processes, CAD/CAM, etc„ After completing my graduate study, I will return to contribute my learning to my country. I plan to work as a researcher of a teacher at an institute or a university.
An experienced engineer of security printing with China’s Central Bank, I now would like to scale higher intellectual heights by pursuing Ph. D. studies in mechanical engineering at your university. I believe that my strong background in CAD has adequately prepared me to embark(从事) on this endeavor(努力).
I have been wonk(用功的学生) of China, a Chinese version of the Federal Reserve, at its unique research institute of security printing, with the responsibility of designing the Chinese currency and the
machinery to produce it. By engaging me in a variety of projects, the job afforded me ample exposure to cutting-edge developments in computer technologies, particularly in CAD software. I have, for example, recently redeveloped a purchased CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to make it more suitable for our own purposes. By adding our own part/subassembly to the database and make our own drawing criteria, we have achieved dramatically better efficiency.
My job performance, which has won me professional respect from all of my colleagues, was achieved thanks to the strong background I acquired
as a student in computer science. My undergraduate GPA ranked first among the 63 students of classmates in mechanical department, for which I was awarded first-class and second-class prizes many times. My graduate GPA ranked among the top 4% of the 105 students in my year, which won me the “San Hao” scholarship every year during the three years of my graduate studies.
Unlike many other Chinese students, who are content with performing well in exams, I made a point of learning through my own hands-on
experiences. In the Master’s program at the Beijing Institute of Printing, I gained an in-depth understanding of artificial intelligence, including expert system and genetic algorithm, especially in neural network. For my thesis, I programmed a multi-level BP neural network with C language to analyze my mathematical model, and applied much of my knowledge in optimization. I thus became able to program with a host of different computer languages, especially C++, with which I helped my graduate advisor to design a paper-cutting machine. To analyze the mechanism statically and dynamically, I programmed a software system to analyze and emulate it on screen. In undergraduate studies, I had often programmed with Fortran77 and the Basic language.
Upon the completion of my Master’s studies, I easily passed the doctoral record examination in CAD/CAM of Beijing University, one f the top universities in China. But I gave up the opportunity in order to gain more practical experience in the industry. The decision proved to be right, as it guaranteed me better access to sophisticated facilities, such as state-of-the-art personal computers. With the People’s Bank of China, I have thus accumulated solid expertise in many kinds of operating and application software systems, particularly in CAD. I now have a firm grip on the latest developments in computer science in China.
The challenges I met and the successes I achieved at the People’s Bank have not only endowed me with confidence but also fired off my desire to further improve myself. I have enjoyed high-quality and efficient production with the use of a kind of PC-based CAD software, MDT, developed
by Autodesk Corporation. I now have a dream: some day, every person can design his favorite product with some sort of CAD software, and then search for an ideal factory over high-speed internet its production; and the factory will put specifications of the product, as it has received them via the high-speed internet into its CIMS, and out pops the product, as designed, at the end of the factory’s production line. It is a beautiful dream for every engineer, but many difficulties the speed of data-transfer and how to manage the product data among CAD, CAM, CAPP and CAE systems. These questions are fascinating, and I would like to come up with my own answers to them.
To prepare myself for advanced studies in your country, I have persisted in improving my English proficiency. As demonstrated by my score of 700 (96%) in the verbal section of GRE, I now have an adequate command of English for undertaking graduate studies in your program.
凸显你的特别之处,你的优势, convince admission committee why you fit for this program, and why they have to choose you over other applicants
Writing the Personal Statement: Top 10 Rules Strive for depth rather than breadth. Narrow focus to one or two key themes, ideas or experiences
Try to tell the reader something that no other applicant will be able to say
Provide the reader with insight into what drives you
Be yourself, not the 'ideal' applicant
Get creative and imaginative in the opening remarks, but make sure it's something that no one else could write
Address the school's unique features that interest you
Focus on the affirmative in the personal statement; consider an
addendum to explain deficiencies or blemishes
Evaluate experiences, rather than describe them
Either way, it won't hurt you to do that, as long as the info you provide in your personal statement is
relevant/helpful to prove your point.

Personal Statement I am a sophomore student from Harbin Institute of Technology in China. As you know, HIT is an absolutely good university in China or the world and my major is composite materials and engineering. I am so interested in it, and I trust I can make a difference in this area in the future. After all, material is essential and irreplaceable at any time, especially in 21st century. When I was a little boy, I wanted to be a scientist that makes everything charming and miraculous. I like thinking and dreaming, and I am sure that I will achieve those interesting and unbelievable things some day.
In China, as students, we have to take part in the National University Entrance Examinations, held once every year nationwide to screen high school graduates for higher education. Before this, there was a tough time for all the students absolutely. We were trained and equipped by knowledge like the soldiers. This is the only opportunity to get higher education fairly in our life. Although my high school doesn't have a brilliant education system and environment, my parents and teacher told me that if you had a dream and you worked hard on it, you must make it. Fortunately, I finally did not take part in the National University Entrance Examinations because I got a great grade in Olympic Physics Competition, and I was sent to Honors School of HIT to study. The Honors School is someone in HIT whose students all over the China are most excellent. I feel proud and stressed.
However, deeply in love with my chosen area of studies, especially in Polymers and Composites, I have been studying extremely hard since the beginning of the course. And courses of my major, rational mechanics, mechanics materials, experiment for materials, fascinate me so much that I am always enthralled in them. As a student majoring in materials, which is a cross-over subject between physics and chemistry, I have to set up an overall and synthetic knowledge system of a wide range of curricula including advanced mathematics, college physics and chemistry. When I was a freshman, I did a project research in technological innovation with my classmates. That's really interesting and creative. What's more, we immersed in laboratory and enjoyed it. During the course of our experiment, we have met a lot of difficulties, but we discussed the experimental step and summarized what we have done to make our plan more feasible. Gradually we got familiar with the complex experimental instruments and did better than before. Although we didn't get any award finally, I really
gained a lot from this competition and enjoyed the teamwork with other people. I have a motto in my heart : Be the change you want to see in the world. Success doesn't depend on ability, that's choice.
It seems I don't have time for fun or extracurricular activities, but I am an alive guy in fact. I like playing badminton, tennis and swim. I will go to the swimming pool with my friends every week. Sometimes I go to the badminton club to relax myself. By the way, I am class monitor who is in charge of organizing entertainment and other recreational events for the benefit of the students. And I like psychology, I read many books of Freud Sigmund and Carl Gustav Jung, and those books help me get along well with others. And in my summer holiday, I often do some part-time jobs, because l like to experience various things, and I can learn a lot except money. It is worth mentioning I am good at cooking, and I enjoy it for my family and friends. Happiness and colorful activities make our life beautiful.
Nowadays, the competition for jobs is increasingly fierce with the rapid development of the economy in China, which has the largest population in the world. In order to accustom myself to the fast pace of today's social change, I have to continually improve my overall ability and become more competitive. I am ready to expand my horizon in your university. If accepted, I would be very pleased to have the chance to meet a lot of intellectual people from different parts of the world.
