With the development of modern society, it is certainly true that there will be a higher proportion of elderly people than younger people in many countries in the future. The trend will lead to tremendous effects on our community and I tend to hold the opinion that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
To be honest, the increase of the elder people has some advantages to some extent. First of all, the elder people accumulated a sea of experience ranging from working, life to professional knowledge; hence, they can share their valuable experience with the younger, which is beneficial to the development of society and young people. Secondly, the social pension insurance system will be improved, which would guarantee our health and life quality.
On the other hand, the disadvantages that the elderly bring should be paid more attention to. For instance, the young people have to undertake more pressure to support the elderly, which may drive many young people crazy. What’s more, higher proportion of elderly will cause decrease in effective working force. In fact, Japan has actually been troubled by its aging people who are destined to be the wealth consumers.
Seen from another aspect, more and more creative and energetic young people are needed to support the rapid social development. It is said that most of the great inventions are created by younger people. Last but not least, the government will increase expenditure on social welfare, which may impede the development of other sectors.
In conclusion, I think a higher proportion of elderly may bring more disadvantages. It is high time that we took some effective measures. Only by promoting economic development can solve the serious problem.
