In 'Akeelah and the Bee' Keke Palmer plays Akeelah Anderson, a bright 11 year old who just wants to fit in. Despite her intelligence, she is not a good student. She is unmotivated and often misses class. Since the death of her father five years ago, she only seems content when she imagines playing Scrabble with him. Nevertheless, her talent for spelling gives her an opportunity to shine.

This is one of the best movies I have seen this year. This heart-warming and inspirational story is about a girl who, despite all the hardships at home, finds a way to utilize her skill at Scrabble. With a little help from her coach (Laurence Fishburne) she not only learns a lot about language, but she also learns how to appreciate the environment around her. She finds out that she is rich in ways she did not realize.

It is very difficult to find faults with this movie. There is something in it for everyone (even a few surprises). Both Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne are awesome. I was particularly impressed with Keke Palmer.

This movie reminds me of the “Chinese Characters Dictation Contest” broadcast recently on CCTV. Each time I watch the program I will try to write the dictated characters myself, which I often find too difficult. Inspired by the example of Akeelah, I’m determined to improve my Chinese writing skills.

a. I am sure that nobody can do something well without practice. We need to learn things by practicing. For example, no one is born to know how to ride a bike. And in class, It’s hard for us to do some exercises very well for the first time. But we practice. We do exercises all day long and finally we can work them out easily. It is the same with our life. We needn’t scared. We can practice more and we will achieve our goal. We do more, we learn more.

For example, when I help my mother to plant flowers, I know how flowers grow. I know it’s hard for my parents to raise me. And learning by doing also makes learning easier and more interesting. Akeelah and the Bee

Akeelah and the Bee was an inspiring and encouraging film. It not only showed us the great power of friendship and kinship, but also taught us many precious qualities. For instance, being grateful for the persons you love and love you, and understanding each other, tolerating each other.

In the film, Akeelah’s sincere and confident smile, Dr. Larenbe’s tolerance and all the neighbor’s kindness and solidarity and so on, all of these left a deep impression on me. Moved by the film, I came to a new personal view of life. That is, if you want to get your destination, you can’t be afraid, and you have to stand up and show all the people what you can do. No matter how powerful the difficulties or enemies you face, don’t worry, there are 5 million people will give a hand. What you have to do is to defeat your biggest enemy---yourself. Just as the words in the movie, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure”.

Just as Akeelah, I once had the same feeling with her. A feeling, that when no matter what you do or where you go, and you just on feeling. Even sometimes, I felt myself was a clown hide in the corner. But now, everything has changed. “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?” Actually, who are we not to be? No one is perfect in the world, but everybody is unique. We should be confident in ourselves and let our own light shine. Although we can not do everything and we can not change some facts, we can still change the attitudes towards the problems.

Now, I do know the feeling, a feeling that when everything feels right, I don’t have to worry about tomorrow and yesterday, when I feel safe and know I am doing the best all the time. Yes, it’s called love. L, O, V, E.
