Smoking in indoor public places including public working places, public transport vehicles and some other special outdoor working places has been banned(禁止)in China since January 2011.Let’s look at the following advantages of banning smoking.{九上寒假作业答案英语}.

First, banning smoking will not only help in saving smokers from health problems and diseases, but will also be good for passive(被动)smokers. When the smoker is smoking in a restaurant, the people around him are sure to breathe in the smoke and suffer from the diseases an active smoker gets. If smoking is banned, spread of these diseases can be controlled.

Next, banning smoking will put stress on smokers to give up. Since a smoker is prevented from smoking, he will learn how to live without smoking for long hours. When a smoker doesn’t smell or see anybody around him smoking, it might reduce his wish to smoke too. As a result, people have to give up smoking.

Smoking in public places influences non-smokers to start smoking, especially . When teens see people around them smoking, they will follow them easily. Thus the number of teen smokers will increase. Also asthma(哮喘)and other problems are often seen in children living around smokers. So if it is banned, these places will become safe for children and teenagers.

Looking from the economic point of view, smoking should be banned to increase work productivity(生产率).Employees(雇员)who smoke usually take breaks to smoke while working. So the number of hours they put in their work is smaller.

{九上寒假作业答案英语}.

Benjamin Banneker was born a few months before another great

American—George Washington. Benjamin was black, but he was

not a slave. He and his mother and his grandmother were free.

Benjamin’s grandmother came from England. In America she got

a job and worked for many years to pay for her boat trip across

the ocean . After working many more years, she saved enough

money to buy a farm. Benjamin lived with her for a while. She

taught him to read and write and do arithmetic (算术).

Benjamin’s neighbour knew that he was clever. They were

not surprised when he built a large wooden clock. He made each

piece after studying a small pocket watch. The clock made him

famous, for it was one of the first clocks built in America. People from other places began to send hard problems of all kinds for Benjamin to settle.

Thomas Jefferson learned of Benjamin Banneker’s ability to settle hard problems. He asked Banneker to help build the city that was to be the capital of the United States—Washington,

D.C. Banneker worked hard on the plans for the city. He marked where the streets and buildings—the Capitol (美国国会大厦) the White House, and many others—should be built.

Later, L’ Enfant, the Frenchman who had designed the new city, had a quarrel, and went back to France in anger. He took all of the plans with him. The workmen couldn’t build without any plans to follow.

For a while it seemed that the plans for the capital might have to be changed, but Benjamin Banneker remembered the plans he had helped draw. He drew each again as he had built each piece of his clock.

If it weren’t for Benjamin Banneker, Washington, D.C might look very different from the way it does today.

Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 12, a white gardenia

(栀子花) was delivered to my house. No card ever came with it. Calls to the

flower-shop were not helpful at all. After a while I stopped trying to find out

Following are opinions on the manner (举止) that people in the United States usually expect in various social situations.

Men usually shake hands with each other when they meet for the first time, but shake hands with women only if the woman extends her hand first. Women do not usually shake hands with each other.

After the first meeting, shaking hands is unusual. However, if someone offers his or her hand by chance, one is expected to shake it. In general, people in the United States avoid (避免) physical touch with each other, since physical touch often suggests sexual attraction or attack.

Although, it has been noted, first names are used more often in the United States than elsewhere, this practice is generally accepted by the rules of etiquette(礼仪). Thus, while it is proper for the foreign student to身份) by their first name, the student would be expected to use ―Mr.‖, ―Mrs.‖, ―Miss‖ or ―Ms.‖ and the person’s last name in addressing to another person who is clearly older than the student. (On the other hand, the old person will probably address the student by his or her first name from the beginning.) If the other person being addressed has a title such as ―Doctor‖ or ―Dean‖, the student should use that title and last name. For example, Doctor Edward Kennedy would be addressed as ―Doctor Kennedy‖. Any faculty (全体教员) member can be addressed as ―Professor‖, no matter whether he or she holds the rank (头衔) of Assistant (辅助的) Professor, Associate (副的) Professor, or full Professor. Equally acceptable are ―Mr.‖, ―Mrs.‖, etc.
