My hero

My Hero

Beethoven is a German classical musician. He played the piano and composed so well that he soon became well-known in Europe. But----He could hardly talk to others. To make the matters worse, he couldn’t even hear his music. Nothing couldn’t be sadder than this for a young musician. Many people thought he would give up, but he didn’t. While he was suffering from the illness, he continued fighting. He faced the difficulties bravely, and composed more famous piano sonatas like“Moonlight”----They are still very popular now.

(二)My hero

He was the man who gave his whole life to his motherland- China. When he was young, he studied in many famous universities in the world, being very hard-working, Then he won many prizes and had many famous inventions. Now,he is the person who make our country stronger and develop faster. And everyone in China will not forget him.

(三)My Hero

My teacher is very experienced and well-trained. She has a sense of humor which makes her classes lively and keeps our attention to her subject. She teaches us not only much knowledge but also some skills on how to learn English well. She treats us as her own children. When we are in troubles, she always encourages us to face the difficulties bravely and cheers us up. With her help, I have made great progress in English. So she is respected by me and becomes the important hero in my heart.

(四)The hero in my heart Many years ago, all the people in the world think that Asians were not good at running. However, Liu Xiang changed their minds. He got the first place. This was the first Asian to win 110m hurdles at the Olympic Games. He ran like a flying horse. He tried his best. At last, he won the Olympic championship. We all jumped, clapped with joy for his success. All the Chinese people are proud of him. We can imagine

how hard he has worked for the race.

Liu Xiang is the hero in my heart. I hope he can do better in the 2012 Olympic games. Good luck to you , Liu Xiang !

The hero in my eyes “我眼中的英雄”为题写一篇不少于60个词的短文,标点符号不占格。) Use the following points as a reference.

 Who is the hero in your eyes?

 Why do you think he/she is the hero in your eyes? (Give one or two reasons.)

 What have you learned from him/her?

1、 In my opinion, a hero is …….

2、 xxx, a ………., is a hero in my eyes.

3、 I think he’s a hero because he ……….. What’s more,

he ………., especially when ………. (此为第二个理由,应与第一个理由有较明显的区别). 4、 Therefore, I admire/ ….. him a lot. From him, I’ve learned that ………

5、 I hope I can be a hero …..

In my opinion, a hero must be brave. Liu Wei, the China’s Got Talent Show winner, is a hero in my eyes. He lost his arms in an electric shock. However, although he’s disabled, he can play the piano with his feet, much better than most usual people. What’s more, his bravery also touches me a lot. He manages to use his feet to clean teeth, brush hair and even type on a computer all by himself. He never gives up when he is in such great trouble. Almost everyone thinks he’s a hero, and I really admire him a lot. From him, I’ve learned that I should be brave and stick to my goal when facing difficulties in my life. He’ll be a great hero in my heart forever. (8+8+1)

In my eyes, my classmate, Jack, is a hero. Everyday, he’s friendly and polite to everyone. He likes to help others, too. If I am unable to solve a maths problem, he’ll help me without any words. What’s more, he’s a brave boy who dares to face his own mistakes and problems. When he makes a mistake, he always apologizes to the teacher and tries to correct it. So after that, he often improves himself a lot. That’s why I think he’s a hero. From him, I learn that I should do my best to solve the problem instead of giving up halfway. JZJ (7+7)

my new hero

my new hero

As soon as Prison Break, the American drama, was released, a young man who called Wentworth Miller became one of the most popular stars. When I saw the drama, I just couldn’t help changing my idol since Wentworth really done a good job in it.

Wentworth Earl Miller III,better known to audiences as just Wentworth Miller, was born on June 2, 1972, in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England to parents, Roxann, a special education teacher, and Wentworth Earl Miller II, a lawyer educator. His two younger sisters, Gillian and Leigh, are also involved in the law field, similar to his father.

When he turned a year old, his family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York. His father became an assistant district attorney over there. Wentworth retains a dual citizenship, but affirms that he has always been an American. He also comes from a very diverse background, his father is of African-American, Jamaican, English, German, Jewish and Cherokee descent, and his mother is of Russian, French, Dutch, Syrian and Lebanese descent.

Wentworth attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn, where he was a member of Sing, an annual musical production that was started by Midwood. He later transferred to Quaker Valley Senior High School in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Wentworth was a straight student in high school and was involved in the AV club and school newspaper.

After graduating from high school in 1990, he attended Princeton University. He was also a cartoonist for the school paper and a member of the A Capella group—— The Princeton Tigertones, where he sang baritone. It was then that he realized he was interested in performing in front of big and small audiences. Five years later, in 1995, he graduated from Princeton with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and moved to California.

That same year, he was hired by a small company who made movies for television. About a year and a half later, he realized that he had unconsciously moved to Los Angeles to be an actor. He then decided to quit his job at the production company even after his employee at the production company had offered him another stable job position. Unfortunately for Wentworth, breaking into the industry was a tough job for him. He worked as a temp at several production companies before ending up working as a temp for his former employee's production office.

It wasn't too long before Wentworth started landing guest roles on show such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ER and Popular. He also starred in the Hallmark series, Dinotopia, playing the character, David Scott. These guest spots later on led to a role in the feature film, The Human Stain, which happened to be his breakthrough role, alongside Nicole Kidman and Sir Anthony Hopkins, where he played the younger version of Anthony Hopkins' character, Coleman Silk. Although the film didn't fare well in movie theaters, it was well received by viewers and critics, further catapulting Wentworth to bigger stardom.

After The Human Stain, he appeared in the movie Underworld, as Dr Adam Lockwood, opposite Kate Beckinsale and Stealth, playing the voice of EDI. He also guest-starred in the series finale of CBS' Joan of Arcadia, as Ryan Hunter, a charming-yet-sinister man who revealed to Joan that he also spoke to God. It was reported that his character would be Joan's greatest challenge, but in May, CBS decided to cancel the show, leaving fans to wonder what might have been. In 2005, Wentworth appeared in the pilot of Ghost Whisperer before eventually starring on FOX network's Prison Break.

Wentworth plays the role of Michael Scofield, a character helping his brother, Lincoln Burrows, escape death row after being found guilty of a crime which he did not commit. Prison Break became an instant hit and Wentworth secured a spot among viewers as one of the hottest up-and-coming actors around. His performance in the show earned him a Golden Globe nomination, a Saturn award nomination, as well as three Teen Choice Award nominations.

Wentworth describes himself as a very private person who likes to spend time just relaxing at home when he's not working. He enjoys swimming, reading, taking naps as well as going to different restaurants every week.

He has also mentioned in an interview that he is writing a screenplay in Chicago, and he enjoys spending time at The Art Institute Of Chicago because he believes that music, painting, movies and theater can all contribute to the work of an actor.

Actually, I just liked the character which he plays at first, but after seeing his all information,I found that he is really an excellent guy.He keeps making efforts for his dream all his life, and never gives in.Not everyone can do like this, but, everyone needs to. And for me ,this is what I learn from him.

SAY NO to GIVE UP!~

Good afternoon, my dear teachers and friends,

Suppose you are in a dark cave alone now. Maybe you can not find any hope, you are trembling and frightened. What will you do? What will you say? Will you give up? (……) No we should not give up. We should try our best to find hope. So today, I am honored to stand here to share my opinion with you---- Let‘s say NO to Give UP.

Even now I can still see a very special picture in my mind now. I was taking part in the 800-meter race. To be honest, it was not hard at first. I felt energetic and confident. We were all pushing on to the finishing line. One minute, two minutes,… Terrible!~ One of the athletes was half the lap ahead of me. So tired and worried I was that my feet could not move any further. ―Give up?‖ A low voice came from the bottom of my heart. At the same time I could feel something shining. My friends and even my Mom and Dad were watching and shouting so loud, ―Come on! Never give up!‖ Strangely, my body kept going. Anyhow I would finish the competition. And I made it.

What about you? When meeting any difficulty, you can not even see any hope at that moment, will you give up? No, let‘s say NO to GIVE UP.

Thank you!

My favourite season

My favourite season is spring.

Everything is very lively in the spring. The flowers are blooming, the trees are growing and the grass is turning green. I like lying on the grass and enjoy the sun shine in the park in the spring. We also can fly a kite, have a picnic, go on a trip or climb the mountain, but I don‘t like to do those things, because they will make me feel tired. Some people like to go to the countryside, however I don‘t think it is a good place to go for a rest. I don‘t like the other season, because they are not very warm: summer is too hot, winter is too cold. While autumn is cool, it isn‘t very beautiful.

Last year, I went to the Slender West Lake in Yang Zhou. First we took a boat to travel down the lake, we saw the Qiong flowers on the bank, and they were very beautiful. Then we visited the

Five Kiosks Bridge, there were five kiosks on the bridge, and every kiosk has a long history. We sit in the kiosk and took some photos. Last we went to the Fishing Platform. Why do people call it ‗Fishing Platform‘? Because the emperor called ‗Qian Long‘ in Qing Dynasty visited it. We also fished in it. We had a good time in Yang Zhou.

Anyway, my favourite season is spring.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Today I want to talk with you.Yes,just talking, not stiff speaking.

My topic is ―first love‖.Many of us have vision it in high school. The special feeling in the memory of the three years is always pure and beautiful.

You may have asked what the ―first love‖is on earth?Shakespare once said―The first love is a little stupid and a little curious.‖ But in my opinion, it means you have grown up!Known to care for others, and this feeling, no matter what the result is ,must be a life-long memorable event.

First love can‘t be called ture love.Boys and girls admire each other and cause a special feeling.A lot of people are called it ―puppy love‖. This is actually an embarrassment word, because it is unscientific. Beyond reproach, first love in life is like the first blooming flower or a new-born morning sun. In all fairness, who never had a beautiful memory of first love in a young age?

―Like‖ can never be called ―love‖. There is a great difference between them. Love is a sense of responsibility but like is a kind of feeling.

I have received a message from one of my good friend.She said: ―if A is 1,B is 2.C is 3,and so on……

Then L+O+V+E=54,

but F+R+I+E+N+D+S+H+I+P=108!

So friendship is twice stronger than love!‖

That‘s all .Thanks!

It's my great honor to be invited here to give a speech on environment. As we all know the environment is very important to us. Because it has a great effect on us.So we should protect our environment .

In fact ,we can do many things to improve environment such as planting trees, collecting waste paper, write to the local newspapers to remind everybody to take care of it.The most important thing is,I think ,to let everybody know its importance and everybody should make a contribution to it .

As long as we try, we can make it. We strongly believe that we can do it !

Let‘s do it together!{myhero

In my 19 years of life, there have been many memories .University days are the most wonderful part of them. I can never forget the day when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.

The classes given by the teachers are excellent.I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.Learning is a long process; I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself.

Last summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. A Kentucky Fried Chichen restonsirant offered me a part-time job.At the beginning I was belittled by my colleagues. But they were really surprised when I comunicated with foreign customers in English soomthly, they began to look at me with respectful eyes.

I also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. So I often take part in activities concerning public welfare. Such as I went to a primary school with my classmates. We taught the kids there who could not afford school.I was deeply impressed by their eagerness to learn.

Besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well. I do body building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic. We also write a play and put it on in our spare time.

Campus life is the most splendid time. But different people have different choices. The majority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish the hope that one day they'll become outstanding. But there are indeed some students still under ignorance. They gather together for eating, drinking or playing cards. They're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. They forget completely about their mission as college students and the hope of their motherland.

Finally, I do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizen of the country. I do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation and make great contributions to the society!{myhero演讲稿}.

about heroes

The Word hero can be confusing, for it has several meanings. It is often applied to ordinary people who happen to perform an act of great courage- a fireman who saves someone from the principal character of a day ,a novel, or a film is known as the hero of the story, even if he is not particularly brave. But the heroes and heroines that we are going to consider now constitute a third group. They are the giants, the out-of-the-ordinary figures whose superiority fills our hearts with admiration and awe; the men and women who give us a high example to follow, a purpose in life, or sometimes just a dream, because they represent the person that we would like to be.

Humanity has always had such heroes. Some have been the saviors or the builders of their country, like George Washington, who gave generations of Americans their model of determination, selflessness, and honor. Others have been religious leaders or gorgeous women; conquerors, athletes, or pioneers; characters in novels or revolutionaries; saints, sinners, likable robbers, or movie stars. Whatever they, they were all stars-shining, glorious, showing the way to their followers below. The desire to be worthy of them could bring out the best in their admirers.

Many articles have appeared in recent years, claiming that there are no more heroes in the Western world. The authors says that, particularly in Europe and North America, the young now refuse to admire anyone; that we are living in a world too well informed, too curious showing us the faults of the public figures who could become today’s stars, until we lose faith and start looking for defects in any person who seems worthy of respect. In a neighbor or a statesman, we try to discover the weaknesses, failures, or ugly motives that are surely hiding behind his noblest action.

Is it true that we know too much? Were our ancestors lucky to be only partly informed? Those who read the first biographies of Charlemagne, George Washington, Joan of Arc, or other great men and women of the past were not told that their hero had bad breath or disliked his mother; they only found a description of his great accomplishments and their admiration was strengthened. In fact, early biographers didn’t hesitate to make up an admirable story or two about their hero. The man who wrote the first biography of Washington, for instance, invented the cherry tree; he admitted later that there was no truth in it, but he said that it was in character and that it would give young men a god example to follow. His readers didn’t seem to object; the book was reprinted eighty times-a tremendous success in those days.

Modern biographers do not invent such stories; they respect the facts, as indeed they should. But we pay a price for their truthfulness, for in their efforts to show “the whole person,” they tell us more than we really need to know about private lives, family secrets, and human weakness. The true greatness of a fine man is often forgotten in the display; and people lose not only their admiration for him, but their willingness to trust any other ”star” completely.

The shows clearly in the remarks of a group of high-school students near Los Angeles, who were asked whom they admired. “ Nobody,” said a young man , “because the objects of our early admiration have been destroyed. People we wanted to believe in have been described to us with all their faults and imperfections; that makes it hard to trust the ‘historical’ heroes.” Another students, a girl, added, “the people we try to imitate are the unknown adults, the noncelebrities

in our lives. Instead of dreaming of being like some famous woman somewhere, I want to be like my mom’s best friend, whom no one in this room would know. But I know and admire her, and that’s enough to me.”

The qualities required of a hero vary with the times, and some great figures of a certain period would surprise the people of another generation. Consider the explosion of love and grief that followed the death of John Lennon in December 1980. Few deaths have caused such deep sorrow, such mourning, in so many countries throughout the history of the world. There is no doubt that Lennon was a hero for his mourners. Why? What had he done that was so remarkable? “John was not just a musician,” says one of his admirers. “He had known how to express my generation’s feelings in the late 1960s. He was our voice and our guide; he changed with our over the years, always a little ahead of us; he opened new horizons for us and encouraged us to venture farther, to dare. To us he talked of love and peace; he was the big brother we needed in a troubled time.” Some of Lennon’s admirers may have been aware that he was not perfect; but they chose to ignore his dark side to remain grateful for the positive contribution he had made in their lives. There are surely many people who don’t consider John Lennon a hero, who in fact have a very low opinion of him. But it is not unusual for one person’s hero to be another person’s villain. Think of all the leaders, the revolutionaries, and conquerors who are deeply respected by one nation, one religious group, or one generation, and despised or hated by others.

Television and films offer many shallow heroes to their young audiences. Many parents are unhappy to see their children’s admiration for Superman. Spiderman, or for some extravagant rock singer without ideas or talent. But such heroes do not last very long; and after a few years the growing teenagers are laughing at these objects of their young admiration. They start looking for better guides. And no matter what they say. They do find them. The student who was wise enough to recognize qualities in her mother’s friend has a perfectly good heroine of her own, and one who is much easier to imitate than George Washington or Clara Barton.

It may be difficult to be a hero in the western world these days, under the searching eyes of a critical society. But surely excellence has not disappeared completely; there are still individual who are superior to their fellow men by their wisdom, their courage, or their character. They can be heroes if people are willing to ignore their human imperfection and to admit the respect that their admirable qualities inspire. Heroes are needed everywhere, at any time. It’s a sad sky that has no shining stars.

Unit 2 There were few doctors, so he had to work very hard on his own

My hero - Dr Norman Bethune

By Wang Lingling

Norman Bethune is one of the most famous heroes in China. He was a Canadian doctor. He came to China to help the Chinese people and died for them.

Norman Bethune was born in 1890. He became a doctor in 1916 and went to Spain in 1936 to treat the wounded soldiers during the war there. He soon realised that many people were dying because they did not get to hospital quickly enough. Dr Bethune developed new ways of taking care of the sick. He invented special medical tools to use outside hospitals and close to the fighting areas so that doctors could treat the wounded more quickly. His inventions saved many lives.

In 1938, Dr Bethune came to China and helped treat the wounded during the Anti- Japanese War. At that time, there were few doctors, so he had to work very hard on his own. His experience of treating people in Spain was useful in China. He developed training courses for local doctors and nurses, and wrote books so that they could learn about how he treated the sick.

Dr Bethune often worked very hard without resting or taking care of himself. Once, he even worked for sixty-nine hours without stopping and managed to save over a hundred lives. One day in

1939, he cut his finger during an operation, but he continued his work without treating it. In the end, he died of his wound.

Dr Bethune's work for the Chinese people made him a hero in China. There are many books and films about him, and he is still remembered in both China and Canada today.

One does not find many outdoor cafes in Great Britain, for the weather there often changes during the day. When British people want to have some drinks either with a group of friends or by themselves, they usually go to a pub. The “pub” is the short form for “public house”. In a pub people can buy all kinds of drinks, from beer to orange juice. The Englishman’s favorite drink is beer.

Quite a lot of businessmen have lunch in pubs near their offices because in many pubs fast food is served. There may even be a restaurant in a pub. The food they sell is usually cheap and good. In the countryside the pub is often part of an inn – a kind of small hotel. People can stay there for the night.

The opening time of pubs is set by law. It might be different from place to place, but usually a pub is open from half past eleven to three o’clock and from half past five to half past ten or eleven o’clock. In the old days,

children were not allowed to enter pubs, because when people drank too much they could become troublesome. Today, however, more and more pubs are opening their gardens to customers, so that the children can play safely in the garden while their parents are having a quick drink.

Generally speaking, the English pub is a friendly place, and offers good drink and food. 1. Where do British people usually go for drinks?

A. Cafes. B. Pubs. C. Restaurants. D. Hotels. 2. At the most, how many opening hours does a pub usually have every day?

A. 8 hours. B. 9 hours. C. 10 hours. D. 11 hours. 3. Why were children not allowed to enter pubs in the old days?

A. Because people often drank too much and became troublesome. B. Because the pubs did not open their gardens to children. C. Because the pubs had no orange juice for children. D. Because people liked to stay in the pubs for the night. 4. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?
